| Tom
Shafer |
|
Tom
Shafer has spent 36 years in printing, journalism and newspaper
business operations. |
| With
a degree in journalism from the University of Florida, he was
an award-winning editor and reporter at Florida
Today, St. Petersburg Times,
and the Ocala Star-Banner. He’s
also worked on the supplier side, as VP of Customer Satisfaction
with Harris Publishing Systems. |
| He
was a founding team member of USA Today,
and oversaw its 36 print sites with regard to print quality
and productivity both domestically and internationally until
1990 when he was named publisher at Gannett’s Jackson
(Miss.) Clarion-Ledger. Shafer has
also held senior management positions with Cox Newspapers and
Thomson Newspapers. |
| Tom
served as the founding Chairman of the NAA Print Technology
Committee and a member of NAA’s Quality Reproduction Task
Force. |
| Currently,
Tom is Corporate Vice President/Production, for Community Newspaper
Holdings, Inc. (CNHI) and also President & CEO of OpsFusion,
a consulting company working with newspapers and commercial
printers. |

| Jack
Little |
|
Jack
has over thirty years in the newspaper production business,
in the pressroom and pre-press environment. |
| Beginning
his career at the Delphos Daily Herald
in Ohio, Jack operated single width presses and assisted in
the pre-press environment, working his way up to Pressroom Supervisor.
You’ll also find Jack credited many times as a Herald
staff photographer! Moving over to the Findlay Publishing Company,
Jack led their new commercial large format sheet fed department. |
| Later,
Jack moved to Pennsylvania to head up the pre-press, press and
post-press departments at Lancaster County Weeklies, a publisher
of several weekly newspapers and commercial printing operation. |
| Currently
Vice President of Customer Service with Manugraph DGM, Jack is responsible
for overseeing the daily operations of the Parts and Service
Departments. He also sells new and used equipment. |

| Mike
Valentine |
|
With
30 plus years of hands-on press operator knowledge, Mike brings
a wealth of tips, tricks and good old-fashioned know-how to
the CMYK-U staff. |
| He
began his career as a letterpress, sheetfed and double-width
web operator at Bennetts Valley News,
then moved to St. Mary's Daily Press,
where he gained valuable pre-press knowledge while still keeping
his hands in the ink as a single width web press operator. As
Pressroom Manager for American Publishing Company, Mike oversaw
operations of their single width web pressroom, darkroom, and
the mailroom, for this daily newspaper and commercial printing
business. |
| He
was Plant Manager for Johnson Newspaper Corporation, responsible
for day-to-day activities, as well as assisting in their expansion
and consolidations of commercial print sites around New York
state. |
| Now
at Manugraph DGM as Director of Printing Services, Mike consults with
customers, offering them technical advisement for upgrades of
equipment and expansion of their facilities. |
